Be a Hero in the Classroom... Help America's Children Soar!
Welcome to the Southwest Airlines Adopt-A-Pilot Registration Station. This is where we gather information to launch the annual Adopt-A-Pilot program.
Please take a moment to carefully review the description of each group below. Once you have decided where you best "fit" please fill out and submit the appropriate registration form. We look forward to sharing and enjoying this high-flying educational adventure with you.
Teachers
If you are a fifth-grade teacher interested in adopting a Southwest Airlines Pilot OR participating in Adopt-A-Pilot Online (Internet version of the program), please fill out the Teacher registration form. Southwest Airlines must receive all applications no later than November 30, 2008, to be considered for the Spring 2009 program.
Once you've submitted your registration form, here's what to expect:
- Notification of adoption by early January. (It takes us a few weeks to process applications and pair Pilots with schools.)
- Once you have been notified, your Pilot will contact you via phone, fax, or e-mail to schedule program coordination. Adopted Pilots will schedule four class visits (one per week).
- With a successful match, Southwest Airlines will provide program curriculum and classroom supplies for an average class size of 25 students. A school supply box of materials will be shipped directly to the school by early January.
- Based on Pilot and school schedules, the AAP program can be launched anytime mid-January through mid-May 2009.
Please Note: The Adopt-A-Pilot Committee may not be able to fill all requests for adoption. Factors such as a school's proximity to where a Southwest Pilot resides and local availability of Pilots who volunteer for the program can limit our ability to reach every school. If we are unable to place a Pilot for adoption with your school, we invite you and your class to participate in Adopt-A-Pilot Online, our Internet version of the program. You can download all Adopt-A-Pilot classroom materials (in pdf format) and have access to one of our "virtual" Pilots who will correspond with your class via e-mail.

The Adopt-A-Pilot program gives you (the Pilot) the opportunity of selecting and working with the school of your choice. The Pilot coordinates program details with the fifth-grade teacher. If you don't have a school in mind, we do get requests from classrooms that would love to "adopt" a Pilot, so we'll do our best to make a match with a school located in close proximity to your home.
Basic commitments for our adopted Pilots include:
- Team with the teacher to implement the program.
- Correspond with the students from the "road" on a weekly basis.
- Schedule four class visits, one per week for four consecutive weeks.
- Be a self-starter with lots of enthusiasm for the classroom.

- An e-mail response from us within five working days confirming receipt of your application.
- If you have not specified a school of your choice on your registration form, we will do our best to pair you with a nearby school and send e-mail confirmation with your adopted school's information by early January.
