What is AAP Online?

Adopt-A-Pilot online is facilitated by a Southwest Airlines Pilot who communicates with classrooms via email while they complete the Adopt-A-Pilot curriculum in their classroom. The Online program takes the best elements of AAP (correspondence with a Pilot and exciting curriculum) and makes them available online. The Online program runs during the same timeframe as the traditional AAP program, January through June.

How does AAP Online work?

Classes establish e-mail correspondence with Southwest Airlines Captain Jesus Melian. Via e-mail, Captain Melian interacts with classes, often asking students questions about Southwest cities he visits, science facts, and geography. He’s even been known to send digital photos from his weekly travels. As AAP Online participants, teachers may receive copies of the Adopt-A-Pilot Flight Plan curriculum booklet.

How does my class get started?

The Adopt-A-Pilot Online program runs from January to June. Please contact the Adopt-A-Pilot Crew to register at adoptapilot@wnco.com. The Adopt-A-Pilot Crew will notify Captain Melian that your class is an official AAP Online participant. From there, it will be up to you and Captain Melian to establish correspondence via e-mail. Enjoy the Adopt-A-Pilot program, using as much or as little of the program materials as suits your class! Be sure to visit the Adopt-A-Pilot Blog to see what Pilots and teachers across the country are sharing about their local Adopt-A-Pilot experiences.
