The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization, is excited to have Southwest Airlines as the Preferred Airline of the organization. Southwest first partnered with GLAAD in 2007 and is the Presenting Partner of the GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco this year.
"As more and more Americans get to know their LGBT family, neighbors and co-workers through the stories that GLAAD helps share, it grows understanding and acceptance," said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. "By supporting our work, Southwest plays a crucial role in our work to fight discrimination. They have shown a strong commitment to our community and GLAAD is proud to partner with them as our Preferred Airline."
Southwest Airlines served as an Underwriter Partner of the 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in 2009, which honor outstanding images of the LGBT community in media. Southwest Airlines also served as the Presenting Partner of the inaugural GLAAD Media Awards in Advertising in 2009, which honor fair, accurate and inclusive LGBT images in advertisements.
