Rapid Rewards Companion Pass Rules and Regulations
(revised 10/06)
- A Rapid Rewards Member becomes eligible for a Companion Pass upon accumulation of 100 flight credits in his/her Rapid Rewards account within 12 consecutive months. If an eligible Member chooses not to obtain a Companion Pass, no alternative award will be provided.
- The Companion Pass is valid for 12 full months, beginning a calendar month after Southwest Airlines issues notification (via postcard) to the Member that the Companion Pass eligibility has been reached. The Companion Pass beginning validity date and/or expiration date cannot be extended.
- A Member is limited to one Companion Pass during a single, 12-month period, regardless of how many credits (over 100) were earned. When the notification postcard is issued, the balance for your next Companion Pass accumulation resets at zero.
- The Companion Pass is valid for free travel only when the Companion is accompanied on his/her flight(s) by the Rapid Rewards Member. Southwest Airlines' Contract of Carriage rules apply. The Member and the Companion will be responsible for any passenger facility charges, federal excise tax payments, or other taxes or user fees which may be assessed by law on the free travel.
- The Companion Pass can only be used on Southwest-operated service.
- An individual may not travel as both a Member and a Companion on the same flight. No Rapid Rewards flight credits will be awarded for flights taken by the Companion using the Companion Pass.
- Reservations are required for Companion Pass travel. When a reservation is made, the Member must choose the Rapid Rewards Companion Pass booking option on southwest.com, or notify the Reservations Sales Agent that a Rapid Rewards Companion Pass will be used.
- The Member and the Companion must check in together and present the Companion Pass card at the Southwest Airlines' Ticket Counter, Skycap podium, or Departure Gate in order for the Companion to travel. The Member and his/her Companion must travel on the same flight(s). Valid photo identification for both Member and Companion is required. The Member and his/her Companion must board in their assigned group(s). For A-List Members who are also Companion Pass Holders, reserved boarding privileges will not be provided for the Member’s designated Companion unless he/she is also an A-List Member.
- The Companion Pass is not transferable. However, the Member may change his/her designated Companion and request issuance of a new Companion Pass up to three (3) times within the 12-month validity period. Requests must be made in writing and accompanied by the current Companion Pass card, which will be canceled, to: Southwest Airlines, Rapid Rewards, P.O. Box 36657, Dallas, TX 75235. In addition, please include the new Companion's name, address, phone number, social security number, and date of birth. Allow 21 days for processing.
- The Member's designated Companion must be an individual and cannot be the Member. Corporations and other entities cannot be designated as Companions.
- Southwest Airlines is not responsible for and will not replace lost, stolen, or destroyed Companion Pass cards.
- The Companion Pass has no cash value and may not be sold, purchased, brokered, or bartered.
- The Companion Pass card is the property of Southwest Airlines and must be surrendered upon request. The Companion Pass card is not a credit card.
- All transactions in the Rapid Rewards program are subject to review by Southwest Airlines. Any misuse or violation of Rapid Rewards rules and regulations, including those applicable to Companion Pass travel, will result in cancellation of the Member's Rapid Rewards account and awards.
- Companion Pass and Award travel is subject to a government-imposed September 11th Security Fee of up to $10 roundtrip. The fee should be paid when the reservation is made so that your checkin time at the airport is quicker. Any additional tax liability, if imposed, is the responsibility of the Award or Companion Pass traveler.
- Southwest Airlines reserves the right to amend, suspend, or terminate this program at any time. This program is void where prohibited by law.
