With our new Freedom Awards, the freedom is yours!

Introducing a great new Award travel option for Rapid Rewards Members—Freedom Awards! Rapid Rewards Members now have the flexibility to convert to a roundtrip Rapid Rewards Freedom Award1 by trading in two roundtrip Rapid Rewards Standard Awards.2

Freedom Awards are not subject to seat restrictions when traveling on Southwest Airlines-only itineraries, so if a seat is available, it's yours! Freedom Awards are subject to limited holiday blackout periods during which they may not be used (listed below). To convert two Standard Awards to one Freedom Award, you can login to your MySouthwest Account and select the "Convert Awards" option, which is located under the "Awards" section of the left margin toolbar.

2009 Blackout Dates
March 15 and 22
May 22 and 25
July 2 and 5
November 24, 25, 28, 29 and 30
December 23, 26, 27and 28

When converting two Standard Awards into a Freedom Award, the two Standard Awards must come from the same Member's account. Awards from two or more separate accounts cannot be combined for a Freedom Award. Once you complete the conversion process, your Freedom Award will be immediately deposited into your account and ready for use.

When converting to a Freedom Award, you will have one of two options:

For free, you can combine two valid Standard Awards to create a Freedom Award that will bear the expiration date of the earliest expiring Standard Award. (e.g. if your standard Awards used for the Freedom Award bear the expiration dates of March 1, 2008 and July 1, 2008, your new Freedom Award would bear the expiration date of March 1, 2008.)

For a $50 fee, you can opt to combine two valid Standard Awards receive a Freedom Award that is valid for 12 months from the date of Award conversion.

Once two Standard Awards have been converted to one Freedom Award, the Rapid Rewards Award conversion cannot be reversed, i.e., Rapid Rewards Members cannot convert one Freedom Award to two Standard Awards.
