TITLE: Executive Vice President Strategy and Planning for Southwest Airlines Co.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Bob provides Executive Leadership for the Company’s Technology, Facilities, Airport Security Technology, Schedule Planning, and Strategic Planning and Implementation Departments. He directs the development and implementation of the Company’s Strategic Plan and guides the Company’s major Change Initiatives, as well as codeshare business development.
LENGTH OF SERVICE AT SOUTHWEST: Started February 2, 1988.
EXPERIENCE: Before coming to Southwest Bob worked for Hewlett-Packard in technology and finance. He began his career at Southwest as a programmer analyst in Technology. He then held various positions in Finance, including manager of sales accounting, director of sales accounting, director of revenue accounting, and controller. After Finance Bob was the Vice President of Purchasing and Fuel, served as Vice President of Technology, and most recently Senior Vice President, Enterprise Spend Management before moving into the position of Executive Vice President Strategy and Technology.
EDUCATION: Bob earned his B.S. Computer Science and MBA from Texas A&M University.
FAMILY: Bob and his wife, Kelly, have a daughter, Sheryl, and a son, Soren.
FIRST PAYING JOB: My first real job was at a truck stop pumping gas for $2.00 an hour.
PROUDEST MOMENT: When my daughter and son were born.
BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED: Keep an eternal perspective-God is in control!
BEST ADVICE EVER GIVEN: Years from now, your children will not remember the specifics of your job, but they will remember if you had time for them or not.
