TITLE: Senior Vice President Operations for Southwest Airlines Co.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Greg is responsible for the Ground Operations Department, including Cargo Management and Airport Performance Improvement; the Flight Dispatch Department; the Operations Coordination Center; and Ontime Performance Initiatives. Greg also serves as the Company’s Emergency Director.
EXPERIENCE: Wells has been with Southwest Airlines over 25 years, with a broad background of operational experience including that of Southwest's station manager in both San Jose and Phoenix where he lead all aspects of the airline's operations in those cities. In 1996, Wells earned the role of regional ground operations director then became senior ground operations director in 1997. He assumed the helm of flight dispatch in 1999 as its director. In 2001, Greg was promoted to Vice President of Safety, Security and Flight Dispatch. In September 2004, Greg was promoted to Vice President of Ground Operations and later to Senior Vice President Ground Operations.
LENGTH OF SERVICE AT SOUTHWEST: Started February 1981.
FAMILY: Greg is the father of two wonderful children: Nicholas and Jackson. Greg is happily married to his wife, Cindy.
FIRST PAYING JOB: Scooping ice cream at the local confectionery for $1.65 an hour.
PROUDEST MOMENT: The birth of my sons.
BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED: When possible, once you make a decision, sleep on it. Things can change drastically overnight.
BEST ADVICE EVER GIVEN: You never know the story until you have heard both sides. Then look somewhere in the middle for the real story.
