Human Remains

Southwest Airlines will not accept human remains as checked baggage; however, a Customer may take cremated remains onboard as a carryon item under certain conditions. Please see the TSA's web site for specific instructions on transporting cremated remains as a carryon item.

If a Customer or funeral/cremation facility chooses to transport cremated remains via Southwest Airlines Cargo, a 48-hour advance notice is required. Prearranged and detailed communication between Southwest Airlines and the crematorium are mandatory per federal security directives, and again, we recommend that cremated remains be presented for transport in a temporary plastic or cardboard container.
